After studying about creation stories from around the world, this week we had our first great lesson, The Coming of the Universe. Students learned about the “Big Bang” and the formation of our Earth and Solar System. Next week we will continue to study about the beginning of time and do several science experiments to accompany our lessons. Additionally, students will be working on writing their own creation stories. We will spend some time learning about the scientific events that took place during and after the Big Bang for several weeks before moving on to our next great lesson.
Spelling City will be up and running this weekend for those who would like to practice their spelling words using the online program. You can simply go to the following link: spellingcity.com/179denali and you will see your spelling groups and games to practice the words. Parents, please remember students are expected to be outside each morning until the bell rings at 8:50, during recess, and after school when the bell rings at 3:30. The weather is always unpredictable but the mornings are getting cooler and cooler. Please remember to send your child to school with the appropriate gear. *Snack providers for next week are Arias, Noella, Daniel, Sophie, and Ethan.

Work sessions are in full swing now and most students are staying productive throughout the day. This week each level focused on telling time and counting money. If you have an analog clock at home and spare change lying around, put them to use and have your child practice these skills. By the end of the year, all levels will be telling time to the minute and counting various amounts of coins.
Next week we will begin geography studies and will continue learning about nouns. We are finally going to have our first Great lesson, The Coming of the universe as well. Many of you have expressed interest in coming to help out in the classroom, thank you to those of you who have done so already. We currently have volunteers on Monday and Friday mornings. Please send me an email if you would like to come in any time during the week or if you would like to help with projects at home. I will be placing the order to for National Geographic for kids classroom magazine next Friday, September 29th. If you have not turned in your supply/subscription fee and would like your student to receive a subscription, please do so by then. Snack Helpers for next week are: Quentin, Brooklyn, Sarena, Granite and Jihyeon. Mrs. Jasmin Thank you to all parents that were able to chaperone our trip to Pyrah’s farm. It was a little cold out but the experience was amazing and class had a great time picking vegetables. Hopefully you were all able to make something with what they brought home.
This was our first week for spelling tests and we will continue to take tests most Fridays. There will be a few weeks throughout the year where we don’t have spelling at all however. You should see your child’s spelling test come home on Friday with the new homework packet. I always offer for students to have the opportunity to retake tests on the following Monday if they struggled with their words. Please encourage them to be practicing at home over the weekend if they need to retake their test. Students are working on getting back into the routine of taking their homework, folders, and papers they may have for me, out of their backpacks and putting them in the right places. If you notice your child has forgotten to take any of these items out of their bags, please give them a gentle reminder to do so. Part of being in the primary class is being responsible for their belongings and I know that can be a challenge sometimes. Feel free to email me as well and I can give them a gentle reminder too. Our classroom website it up and running, but be patient with me as I work to keep it up to date. You can access the website by going to the following link jasminasd.weebly.com. There are a few pictures up now from the field trip and you can also find the snack calendar, homework menu, and spelling words on there. Snack helpers for next week are Nina, Erin, Remedy, Mathias, and Wyatt. Students did a wonderful job remembering to return homework today. Way to go and keep up the good work! We took our first spelling test today which went well. Parents, please encourage your child to practice their spelling words nightly. There are spelling assignments in class, however, I find that students are most successful when they practice at home also. Spelling tests will come home with Friday's homework packet. If your child is absent on a Friday, please give them a spelling test over the weekend and send it in Monday, or have them come prepared to take their spelling test Monday morning.
On Wednesday, September 13th, we will be going to Pyrah's farm. If you have not yet returned your permission slip, please do so ASAP. Thank you to the 4 parents who volunteered to chaperone and for the many more that sent scholarships for others. We will be leaving first thing in the morning at 9:15 so please be here on time. In class next week we will continue our studies of the beginning of the universe. In addition to this, we will begin a more in-depth study of nouns and delve into some Geography. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to email me. [email protected] *Snack providers for this week are Joya, Aubrey, Eugene, Ethan, and Aidan. |
