Woohoo!!! Our Alaska Challenger Center Road trip project was funded last night!! Thank you so much parents, it's a relief to have most of the costs covered for our trip to Kenai. There's plenty of time if you still need to pay, and if you need a scholarship, please let me know! We will have a parent meeting soon to discuss the final details of the trip. Again, thank you all for your support!

Well, we have half of the costs covered for our trip to Kenai in April thanks to Donors’s Choose matching all of the donations you were able to give last week. We will have more information for you regarding the times and trip details as the day of the trip approaches. The cost for each student attending will be $40.00 and we are still trying to find out about the possibility of siblings attending the workshops as well. If you would like to send your payment in and plan on writing a check, please make them out to either myself Jasmin Austin, or Christine Homan.
We have been focusing on writing these last couple of weeks and will continue to write short stories daily. I encourage students to be creative and not worry so much about spelling in their first drafts of writing which tends to help those who are a little more shy towards writing or have perfectionistic tendencies. Hopefully soon, you will see more finished and polished pieces of writing coming home. We are out of reserve snack so if you are not able to bring snack in your scheduled day, please let me know so I can make arrangements to bring in extra or switch days around. Snack helpers for next week are: Brooklyn, Ryme, Granite, Jihyeon, and Rah’miya. Mrs. Jasmin Our class has signed up for an amazing opportunity with Mrs. Homan's class to take an overnight field trip to Kenai in April to study STEM at the Alaska Challenger Center. This will be a 2 day adventure where students will get to participate in activities that focus on Ice Cream Engineering and Rocketry. We will leave on April 19th, stay overnight at the Challenger Center and then return on April 20th.
The district requires us to take a bus down to Kenai which means we need an additional $1500.00 for this trip to cover the expenses, however, chaperones may drive private vehicles. Mrs. Homan set up a Donors Choose project to help with these costs and for a very limited time we have a matching donor, Craig Newmark Philanthropies, that will match all donations made. We are asking you to pay your child's admission fee of $40.00 now, if you can, so that we can jump on this awesome opportunity and have more funds for scholarships and food. We are aware that some families may not be able to pay $40.00 for this trip but would still like for their child to go, so please pay what you can and keep in mind that chaperones are free. If you go online to pay through Donor's Choose but the project is already funded, you can send the payment in with your child. We hope to collect all of the admission fees by Spring Break in March. Enjoy your 3-day weekend! Snack helpers for next week are: Aidan, Nina, Erin, and Wyatt. Mrs. Jasmin Welcome back, and Happy New Year! Hopefully you all had an opportunity to relax a little over the Winter Break and enjoy some family time. We are going to jump right back into the swing of things and begin working towards a successful and progressive 3rd quarter. We will start with a unit on creating a peaceful and positive classroom environment full of read alouds, activities and projects that will get students thinking about themselves and how they can actively encourage others around them. Our cultural studies will focus on the 2nd Great Lesson, the Coming of Life in our universe and we will continue with our map studies. We will all be focusing on North America and the United States this month. At the end of the month, 2nd and 3rd graders will be assessed on the placement of each state on the map. The 3rd graders will also need to learn the correct spelling of each state. You can check the homework page for copies of the map and I will be sending some home as well.
Students please set aside at least 20 minutes of each day to sit to read quietly to yourself or with someone else. Write your plan for each day on the back of this homework log or on another sheet of paper to keep at home. Find a place to put your schedule so you will be reminded to read each day. Parents, please encourage your children to take ownership and responsibility of this time set aside to read and continue to support them along the way. Great news, our Sphero's Heroes project got funded just before the break and the robots are on the way!! Thank you to all of the families who donated to this project! Please remember to help your child to be prepared each day with the appropriate winter gear. Our sledding hill is closed until we get some fresh snow and the hill conditions are safe. Thanks! Snack Helpers for next week are: Mrs. Jasmin, Max, Teagan, Levi, and Aubrey We have 26 students in our class. |
